Prior to opening his current legal practice, Bruce was the managing attorney for St. Paul Companies Minnesota staff attorney office and later became manager and practice group leader of the Minnesota Travelers civil litigation staff attorney office. He began his career as the managing attorney for Candlin, Faulkner and Sjostrom and chair of their civil litigation group.

Bruce received his B.A. in 1971 from the University of St. Thomas and his Juris Doctorate in 1974 from the University of Denver Law School. He has taught trial skills and dispute resolution as an Adjunct Professor at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he has been employed part-time since 1997. Bruce also teaches appellate advocacy and acts as a mock trial judge for local Twin City high schools and law schools.
